Rafting with the gals

I am back from much-anticipated Rogue rafting trip. The last of the Alaskans left last Friday and I immediately missed them. But Saturday I volunteered to guide and help with garden and art tour. So look where I had to hang out all day. There was not much shade--poor me.

As of August 2 my walking/biking tally was 864. I virtually arrived in Wyoming. On to Nebraska.
The week of Aug 10 was 37 miles. I am descending from the Tetons onto the plains. My total is 901. I need to reach 1030 by Sept 1 to be on schedule.

Hydrangeas, Diaper Derby and Wyoming

It was a great Curry County Fair. Beautiful weather, inspiring entertainment, so much to see.

I am 4 miles from Wyoming, in the Tetons. Tomorrow I will bike to the P.O. and make it a total of 860 miles since Jan 1.
Friday I leave for Galice with Shirley Freeman, Peg Reagan, and Imy to raft the Rogue with 12 girl friends from here and Alaska. Whoo Hoo!!

Curry County Fair

My large cabbage
Five nice baseball-size beets won best of show for me this year!

You just have to love those hydrangeas.
I am almost up to the 30 mile average. I have done more than 40 most weeks and did 57 last week. I am in the Tetons, almost to Wyoming.
Hiked with Jeffrey Eugenides, listening to "The Marriage Plot" two weeks ago. Great ending.  Last week, hiked and biked while listening to Cheryl Strayed--"Wild: lost and found on the Pacific Crest Trail." She captures the soul of the lone journey to find oneself. Both were great reads!

Lupines,buzzards, and elk

Bumblebees and lupines are perfectly designed for pollination. The bee's weight pushes the cup down and open to access pollen.

I'm back hiking and biking again. I have lots of distance to make up. The rains in March and April, the statistics class, and a trip to Kodiak all contributed to me not making my 30 mi per week goal. I did between 15 and 25 per week during those months. On  June 22 I completed 30 miles which puts me East of Mountain Home in Idaho. I am going to try to do 40 miles for the rest of the summer. We'll see.
